 Membership Overview  
Membership in ASMEA is free to teaching professionals, students, interested members of the public, and academic institutions engaged in the fields of Middle Eastern and African studies, and related fields until the end of 2008. After that, membership fees will be assessed on a sliding scale for those in each of the following categories (see below).

Individual Members
 
Members:
Professionals who are teaching/researching in the fields of Middle Eastern, African or Strategic Studies, or other disciplines, who have received a doctorate and/or have taught at the college/university level and/or who have made scholarly contributions to advance the pursuit of knowledge.
 
Student Members:
Full-time graduate or undergraduate students interested in these fields, or pursuing a degree in Middle Eastern, African, or Strategic Studies, or related disciplines. After December 2008, students will be asked to provide proof of their status annually.

Associate Members:
Individuals interested in the fields of Middle Eastern, African, or Strategic Studies but are not pursuing a degree or teaching at a college/university.

Combined Membership:
Spouses of members may join the Association under this membership category.

Life Members:
After December 2008 a one-time payment made by an individual will secure a life membership without the requirement of further dues payments. Life members must declare themselves a regular, student or associate member.  

Membership Benefits (individuals):
  • ASMEA newsletter- Includes articles by specialists and others focused on the Middle East, Africa, and Strategic Studies, and related disciplines.
  • Book Reviews- Access to book reviews and information about electronic and other resources in ASMEA’s fields. Members may request to write reviews for the Association's publications.
  • Job Bank- Information on employment opportunities in these and related fields in the Academy and elsewhere.
  • Syllabi Bank- Course outlines and reading lists as suggested by the members.
  • Awards, Research and Travel Grants- Financial awards for members engaged in research efforts fundamental to the mission of the Association.
  • Discounted conference registration fees.
Institutional Members

Academic institutions, associations, study centers, libraries, think tanks, and institutions from outside of the Academy are welcome to become members of ASMEA. Institutional members will be assessed an annual fee beginning after December 2008 and will have access to all aspects of ASMEA except for the Job Bank. Institutional members also are precluded from receiving grants and awards, or discounted conference fees.

  • Student Member-$25
  • Associate Member-$50
  • Combined Membership- $20
  • Life Member - $1000
